ROADS & INFRASTRUCTURE

We have 12,733 km of road in Cork County and are tasked with the maintenance of the largest road network of any local authority in the country. A combination of under investment and bad weather has left our road network in a shocking condition. While the Council’s road a funding allocation for 2018 was just €48m it is estimated that a one off allocation of €548m is needed to bring the counties roads up to scratch. We pay our motor taxes and at the very least we deserve a road network that is safe and comfortable to travel on. Drastic action is needed and I committed to lobbying the government and the TII, to take decisive action in order to safeguard the viability of our rural road network. If our cars have to meet NCT standard’s, then why is there no standard for our roads?
